My novel Rise & Shine is published by Scribe Publications (June 2020). My previous novel, Figurehead (Black Inc., 2009), was longlisted for the 2010 Miles Franklin Literary Award. My short fiction, essays and reviews have appeared widely. My book on Australian writer Maria Tumarkin is forthcoming from Melbourne University Publishing, and I am co-author of the forthcoming new edition of Making the Grade: a guide to successful study and professional communication (OUP).
I have extensive experience as an editor, manuscript assessor and judge of both published and unpublished writing. I was previously Commissioning Editor for the University of Adelaide Press. In 2017, I co-edited a South Australian-themed issue of Griffith Review (‘State of Hope’). I worked in bookshops for many years: new, used, antiquarian. I have taught politics, communications, writing, and publishing and editing, most recently at Flinders University.
I live in the Adelaide foothills (they’re not as high as the other Adelaide Hills) with my family.
